Welcome to the official website of the 2025 Green Fintech Competition, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB), and supported by Cyberport, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), and InvestHK.
The HKMA launched the Green Fintech Competition for the first time in 2023 as part of its efforts to enhance the resilience of the banking sector to climate risk, with an aim to raise the Hong Kong banking sector’s awareness of market-ready green fintech solutions and promote the use of technology in green and sustainable banking.
Riding on its success, the HKMA and HKIB is reintroducing the competition in 2025 to review and consider new solutions, innovations and advancement in the green fintech field.
Firms are invited to participate and showcase how their green fintech solutions can be applied to the banking sector to address one of the following themes:
#1 Sustainable supply chain and SMEs
#2 Accelerating climate risk modelling and analytics
#3 Carbon market analytics and technology
#4 Sustainable investing
#5 Sustainable banking and financing products
The areas of focus of these themes can be found here.
All firms, including but not limited to ESG fintech companies, fintechs pivoting to ESG services, data companies, financial services and banks, technology companies, within the green fintech ecosystem offering green fintech solutions in Hong Kong and around the world are welcome to participate.
Interested firms will need to make a submission of a market-ready solution relevant to one of the competition themes by 22 May 2025 (Thursday).

# HKSTP’s Global Connect offers overseas firms the opportunity to access Asia markets. The soft-landing programme provides a grant up to HKD$100,000 to scale your business in Hong Kong, subject to milestone achievements.

Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA): The HKMA is Hong Kong’s central banking institution. It was established on 1 April 1993 by merging the Office of the Exchange Fund and the Office of the Commissioner of Banking. The HKMA's four main functions are:
The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB): Established in 1963, HKIB is the first not-for-profit institution that provides training and certification services to the banking community in Hong Kong, with a mission is to enhance and sustain professionalism in banking.
Cyberport: Cyberport is Hong Kong’s digital technology flagship and incubator for entrepreneurship with over 2,200 members including over 900 onsite and close to 1,300 offsite start-ups and technology companies.
Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) : HKSTP is Hong Kong’s powerhouse for international innovation and technology, with over 2,200 technology companies from 26 countries/regions of origin, and approximately 1,500 start-ups supported.
InvestHK : InvestHK is the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Department responsible for foreign direct investment.
1. Q: Our firm / solution joined the Competition in 2023. Are we eligible to join the Competition again this year?
A: We are open to applications from solutions which joined the Competition in 2023, as long as the solutions are relevant to the Competition themes, and have made substantial updates to the solution since last submitted in 2023. You will have the opportunity to share any updates made in the application form.
2. Q: Our firm is a start-up based in another jurisdiction, are we eligible to join the Competition?
A: Definitely – we welcome market-ready solutions from any parts of the world to take part in the Competition. Our evaluation does consider whether the solution is applicable to the Hong Kong landscape, so please ensure you indicate in the application how the solution is suitable for the Hong Kong market.
3. Q: Our firm has many years of history and offers mature solutions meeting all the competition themes with operations in multiple locations. Can we make more than one application?
A: Of course – we welcome any players in the market to join the Competition. You may make more than one application with your solutions as long as they are relevant to the themes.
4. Q: Our firm does not focus in offering fintech solutions. We are a private company and developed a platform for internal use which fits well to the themes with huge potential to be applied to the banking sector in Hong Kong. Can we join the Competition?
A: Yes – any companies, data companies, ESG fintech companies, fintechs pivoting to ESG services, financial services and banks, technology companies within the green fintech ecosystem, private companies, etc., with solutions relevant to our themes are welcome to join the Competition.
